This year, the National Geographic Society is Amazon rainforest lodge honoring a visionary conservationist named Tom Lovejoy with our highest award, the Hubbard Medal. A National Geographic Explorer at Large and longtime member of our Board of Trustees, he dedicated his life to the protection of the Amazon and inspired countless adventurers to join his cause.

His legacy lives on in the books he wrote, the people he touched, and now, in an ambitious plan to safeguard this mighty river. With our partner Rolex, we are launching a series of expeditions designed to explore, document, and protect the Amazon Basin, the world’s largest tropical rain forest.

The Amazon is a river of many colors, shaped by the shifting seasons of its seasonally flooded forest. As the river levels rise and fall, a network of tributaries form that make their way through the lush jungle. In our nimble skiffs, we slip into this intricate tangle of riverways, venturing into pristine Amazon territory that few other people have ever seen.

Our crew members aboard the Delfin II are born and raised in the rainforest, spending their childhoods walking forest paths, climbing trees to pick fruit, fishing small streams, and chasing iguanas along the shoreline. Each day, they’re on hand to ensure a comfortable, safe experience that stays true to the spirit of the rainforest. They’re experts on the wildlife that thrives in this enchanted region and are eager to share their passion for it with you. They know this place like nobody else, and they’ll help you understand its secrets through the sights, sounds, and tastes of the rainforest.
